Sri Lanka Embassy in Brussels Celebrates Independence Day of Sri Lanka

The Sri Lanka Embassy in Belgium celebrated the 73rd Anniversary of Sri Lanka's Independence Day in Brussels on 4th February 2021. The national flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Sri Lanka Residence with the participation of the Embassy staff. The Sri Lankan community members could not participate in the event due to the prevailing COVID-19 related restrictions in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Ambassador Grace Asirwatham hoisted the national flag which was followed by singing of  the national anthem and observance of two minutes silence to pay homage to all those who had sacrificed their lives in the service of the country. Further, religious observances were conducted on a virtual platform by Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic religious leaders, to invoke blessings upon Sri Lanka.  The staff of the Embassy read the National day messages of the His Excellency the President, Honourable Prime Minister and Honourable Foreign Minister. A video recording of the Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony was shared with the Sri Lanka community in Belgium and Luxembourg.
